Exhibit by Julio Panisello
in The Velaslavasay Panorama Gardens

Saturday, March 16, 2013
3 - 6 PM

Join us in The Velaslavasay Panorama gardens for a pop-up exhibit by ShoeboxLA featuring Los Angeles artist Julio Panisello. Employing old master techniques utilizing egg tempera painting, charcoal, and gold leaf to develop a modern recreation of a Renaissance self-portrait series, Julio Panisello offers us artwork in edible media which recreates history and celebrates the modern artist.

Illusions in Motion by Erkki Huhtamo

Professor Erkki Huhtamo's wonderful new book Illusions in Motion: Media Archaeology of the Moving Panorama and Related Spectacles has been just published by the MIT Press. Richly illustrated with material from Huhtamo's media-archaeological collections, the book is an exploration of media culture between the eighteenth and the twentieth centuries and brings the moving panorama back to living memory, discussing its relationships with other spectacles including dioramas and magic lantern shows.
