The Velaslavasay Panorama welcomes Los Angeles Filmforum and filmmaker Marie Losier for a program of selected shorts. Filled with color, humor, and cinematic delights, Losier has made films with collaborators including Guy Maddin, Mike and George Kuchar, and Richard Foreman. This program accompanies the screening of her documentary feature The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye at Outfest on Saturday, July 9.

Presentations will include:

Bureau of Small Requests: The Department of Uncertainty
The first in a 76-part series of tabletop toy theater shrines that use puppetry and projection to invoke a sense of ritual, poetry, pathology and supplication to an individual hope or fear. This project draws inspiration from a visit to the the Taoist Dongyue Temple in Beijing and the 76 departments of the Taoist Pantheon.

The Velaslavasay Panorama presents "Pursuing the Verdant Dream: Two Afternoons of Kwun & Yueju Opera" directed by Professor Zhao Gan Li. On Saturday, August 6th, we welcome the Kwun Opera Society, which will present selections from the story of “The Peony Pavillion” accompanied by live musicians. On Sunday, August 7th the California Yueju Opera Center will perform selections from four different opera stories in the Yueju canon, including “The Dream of the Red Chamber” and “The Jade Hairpin.” Please visit our dedicated page for "Romance of the Western Chamber" to see a graphical representation of a traditional Chinese Opera story.
