客愁全为减
舍此复何之

TRAVELING AGAIN
I remember the temple, this route I've travelled before,
I recall the bridge as I cross it again.
It seems the hills and rivers have been waiting,
The flowers and willows all are selfless now.
The field is sleek and vivid, thin mist shines,
On soft sand, the sunlight's color shows it's late.
All the traveler's sorrow fades away,
What better place to rest than this?

In this illustrated lecture Founding Director of the Velaslavasay Panorama Sara Velas will sketch the history of panoramic media and detail the recent production and debut of Shengjing Panorama, painted by masters of the Luxun Academy of Fine Art: 李武 Li Wu, 晏阳 Yan Yang, and 周福先 Zhou Fuxian. Shengjing Panorama offers an immersive period experience of the historic city of Shenyang ca. 1910–1930, during a moment of rapid cultural transition marking the end of Chinese Dynastic Rule and the birth of the South Manchurian Railway System. The origins of the Velaslavasay Panorama project on Hollywood Boulevard will also be discussed.

Note: this presentation is free, open to the public and taking place offsite at the Krannert Art Museum in Illinois.
