A whimsical Carnival, sponsored by City Council District #1, includes an all-day outdoor stage with live music and entertainment, puppet-making workshops with the Los Angeles Guild of Puppetry, midway games, educational and exhibition booths from the local art community,  food trucks, walk around entertainment and more! With round-the-clock puppet shows and a pop-up puppet museum going on inside the Theater, this is one celebration not to be missed.

The Velaslavasay Panorama will be present (between Noon & 4:00 P.M.) with a walking exhibition of our miniaturized Grand Moving Mirror of California, a moving panorama of the California Gold Rush. First conceived in 1853 by "Dr." L.E. Emerson, then reimagined and recreated by the Velaslavasay Panorama in 2010, the Grand Moving Mirror of California is a monumental 275-foot, hand-painted scroll which is housed in the Union Theatre on 24th Street. A Miniature version of the Grand Moving Mirror will be on display at Bob Baker Day with live foley sounds, a crankist, and an orator giving presentations of the early-cinema experience.

The Grand Moving Mirror of California
at the Exploratorium, San Francisco, Pier 15

Thursday, March 1st, 2018
6:00 P.M. - 10:00 P.M.
& Saturday, March 3rd, 2018
1:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.

The Velaslavasay Panorama is taking part in the Exploratorium of San Franciso's After Dark series, an evening dedicated to cinema's contiuum -- a timeline of motion-picture technology, from the earliest hand-drawn, hand-cranked experiments to cutting-edge experiences that aim—again—to redefine what cinema may be.

The miniaturized Grand Moving Mirror of California will be on view with intermittent presentations with live foley sounds, a crankist, and an orator telling the tale of a man travelling by ship from the east coast to the west coast during the California Gold Rush. The moving panorama was an early experiment in kinetic storytelling and a direct precursor to cinema.

Thursday night presentations (Adult 18+) will occurr at 7:00, 8:00, & 9:00 P.M. Tickets are available at the Exploratium.
Saturday (All Ages) presentations will be at 1:00, 2:00, & 3:00 P.M, and is included in General Admission prices.
