On the occasion of the 238th Anniversary of Robert Barker’s Panorama Patent, Dated June 19th, 1787, the IRS reconvenes and welcomes Daniel Jaquet (Terapixel Panorama / École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), Eric Kurland (LA 3-D Space / LA 3-D Club), and Tonia Ramogida (Terapixel Panorama / École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne).
DANIEL JAQUET
Daniel Jaquet is a medieval historian (PhD 2013, University of Geneva), specializing in the study of European martial arts in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. He is also a museologist, collaborating on and curating local, national, and international exhibitions. As the historian in the Terapixel Panorama project at the Laboratory for Experimental Museology at EPFL (2022-2026), he will discuss how to incorporate the historical dimension of a 19th-century object with a contested history into the strategy for presenting it to the public in the 21st century. ERIC KURLAND
Eric Kurland is an award-winning filmmaker, 3-D specialist, and CEO of 3-D SPACE, The Center For Stereoscopic Photography, Art, Cinema, and Education. Consulting on 3-D projects, his clients have included National Geographic, NASA JPL, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. 3-D director of the Grammy nominated OK Go music video All Is Not Lost. Lead stereographer on the Oscar nominated short Maggie Simpson in The Longest Daycare, and the Emmy nominated Planet Of The Couches VR for The Simpsons. Eric will discuss how the methods of viewing stereoscopic images have evolved from analog to digital.
TONIA RAMOGIDA
Tonia Ramogida is a Researcher in Digital Humanities at the EPFL Laboratory for Experimental Museology (eM+) in Lausanne, Switzerland; she works on multisensory storytelling in the form of olfactory, sonic, and narrative augmentation for the Terapixel Panorama project. Her work has produced academic papers, immersive exhibitions, and the Terapixel Panorama's dynamic smellscape, which constitutes the first-ever use of real-time olfactory augmentation in the cultural heritage domain. In addition to academic writing, Tonia works on immersive literature and creative work forms, including word/image poetry. This has led to several published works. Tonia Ramogida on LinkedIn.
